Transferring Music

There are two ways to copy files to the Aurender's HDD. One is to use a computer connected to the Aurender Music Player via the Ethernet (LAN) connection. Another is to connect a USB memory device to the USB port on the rear panel.

Note: After song files are copied to the Aurender Music Player, the newly added songs or changes can only be seen after hard drive is scanned and the song database is uploaded to the iPad. This happens automatically a couple of minutes after the last changes to the hard drive. To see changes immediately, press the "Upload song information database" button in the Scanner menu located in Settings of the Aurender App. Depending on the size of the database, this can take a few second to about one minute.

PC Users

1. Open Network Connections and look for the Aurender Music Player.

2. Double click the Aurender Music Player and folders named "hdd1″ and 'hdd2' will appear.
Double-click this folder and you will be asked for the Username and Password. These can be found in Settings in the NAS Share section.

3. After entering the Username and Password, use your mouse to drag and copy files to the
folders on hard disk drive.

4. On the hard drive, folders may be created, named, or deleted.
To make a folder, right click on an empty space and click NEW-> Folder. The names for five folders on the hard drive will be shown in the second row buttons between ALL and MISC. If you have more than five folders on a hard drive, place square brackets around the folder names that you want - [My Music].

If the Aurender music server does not appear in Network Connections, input the Aurender IP address manually as follows:

1. Press the Windows + R on your keyboard (START -> RUN).

2. Type in two back slashes (\\) and the IP address of the Aurender music server.
(For example: \\192.168.1.171). The Aurender IP address can be found in NAS under SETTINGS on the iPad application.

3. Click OK and a window will appear with folders labeled 'hdd1'and 'hdd2'. Open the folder.

4. A popup window will ask for a Username and Password. They can be found in NAS under SETTINGS in the iPad application.

5. Drag and drop files in to hdd1'and 'hdd2', or sub-folders.

Note: Importing large libraries at once can take a very long time. We recommend importing files in batches.

Mac Users

1. Locate the Finder menu bar at the top of your desktop.

2. Click GO -> CONNECT TO SERVER from the navigation bar.

3. Type in 'smb://' followed by your Aurender's IP address.
(For example: smb://192.168.1.171) The IP address can be found under SETTINGS -> NAS.

4. Click Connect and a window will appear with folders labeled hdd1'and 'hdd2'.
Open the folder.

5. A popup window will ask for a Username and Password.
They can be found in the iPad application under SETTINGS -> NAS.

Note: If the Aurender is connected through a Gigabit network, the transfer speed will be roughly 50MB/sec. It could take 5-6 hours to copy 1TB of files. We recommend copying files in batches. The Aurender is able to playback music and copy files at the same time.

USB Memory Device

Begining with Aurender System Software 4(5).3.130 USB copying for playback from a USB drive can be activated from the "Disk Information" tab in "Settings" in the Aurender Conductor App. Users can play files directly from an attached USB storage device (one device only) or copy the content into the Aurender's internal storage drive by selecting the command "Copy".

If you wish to copy file content from an external drive into a specific folder you’ve created on the  Aurender internal HDD, you need to import using the same file structure employed on the Aurender.

For example, if you have a folder named "Music1/Rock/Eric Clapton/24 Nights" on your internal HDD and you want to copy another Eric Clapton album, “Clapton” from an external drive, then the folder structure on that drive should look like this: "Rock/Eric Clapton/Clapton”. After copying the album into the Aurender, the internal HDD file structure will look like: "Music1/Rock/Eric Clapton/Clapton”.

Settings : Music Player

In the Music Player section are various settings required by some DACs to operate smoothly with the Aurender Music Player.

  • Time delay setting

This setting is for DACs that need time to adjust to sample rate changes. If the beginnings of songs are cut off or there is a slight distortion at the beginning of songs when the sample rate changes, please set the delay time to 3 or 4 seconds and the problems should be solved.

  • SPDIF setting

There are two formats for SPDIF data structure. Most DACs support both, but some legacy DACs only support one. These legacy DACs will work with the Aurender, if the user selects the Consumer format or Professional format. Most DACs accept both formats and this setting has absolutely no effect on the sound quality.

  • Use Fade-In/Out

Depending on the DAC or amplifier setup, pops or clicks may be heard when pausing and restarting songs. Turning on the Fade In/Out option can eliminate these popping sounds. (from App 1.5.09 /System Software 2.0.41 and above)

  • Dual-Wire Mode
To toggle Dual-Wire mode on and off, go to Settings of the iPad App. Turning on Dual-Wire mode will send signals through both AES/EBU outputs. If the Aurender is mistakenly set for Dual-Wire mode and used with a single AES/EBU output, the Aurender will display a sampling rate one-half that of the original rate.

  • Word Clock Mode

*Applies only to W20.

Word Clock is automatically turned on when a word clock signal is detected on the BNC input. When Word Clock mode is on, the SPDIF output will synchronize with the word clock signal.

For 44.1, 88.2 and 176.4 kHz sampling rate music, 44.1, 88.2 and 176.4 kHz word clock or a 22.5792 MHz master clock signal are valid.

For 48, 96 and 192 kHz sampling rate music. 48, 96 and 192 kHz word clock or a 24.576 MHz master clock signal are valid.

An optional USB dongle for dCS Master Clocks is available for automatic word clock frequency selection.
